Cheney Mansion will hold a bourbon and beer tasting event next weekend that staff hopes will attract a more diverse group of guests from around the Chicago area to the historic Oak Park venue.
The mansion’s bookings have increased 11 percent this year, and mansion director Poppy Vogel said she hopes the public event Oct. 19 will enhance its presence in the regional market.
In addition to handcrafted whisky and artisanal beer, the event from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. will have live music and gourmet food from Marion Street Cheese Market. Proceeds will support Pro Musica, a children’s chorus based in Oak Park and River Forest.

Host of WBEZ’s “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!”, and Oak Park resident, Peter Sagal tweeted that he’ll be making an apperance at the event. Sagal’s wife, Beth Sagal, is vice president of the Pro Musica board.
