ComEd is rolling out a million-dollar command center to battle power outages, about a year after a massive blizzard left homes across the region in the dark.

The electricity company unveiled the 53-by 22-foot vehicle on Sunday outside of Oak Park Village Hall. ComEd plans to tow the trailer to communities hit hardest by storms to coordinate its workers, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Before Sunday, those efforts came from a facility in Joliet.

The trailer seats about 25 people and includes multiple flat-screen monitors and a kitchenette. ComEd also expects to debut a smartphone app this summer to help customers stay informed about outages, the Sun-Times reports.

Just make sure that they never get a rate increase because we all know that comed is located in that magical place where costs never rise and employees work for free. KMA

They need to do A LOT more to make up for their crumbling infrastructure and the damages both financial and psychological they cause to so many thousands of people. The legislature just gives wrist slaps when they should be pounding on Com Ed to shape up.
