The OPRF boys basketball team will try to avenge last month’s disappointing 65-53 loss to Lyons Township with television cameras rolling.

The Huskies, who are sitting atop the West Suburban (Silver) Conference with a 6-1 record after annihilating Glenbard West 81-54 on Wednesday night, will host Lyons on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m.

The contest will be the featured Game of the Week on Comcast (CN100).

Containing Lyons senior guard Kenny Smith will likely be OPRF’s priority. Smith scorched the Huskies for 28 points in the first meeting.

If OPRF plays like it did against Glenbard West, spectators and television viewers should be in store for quite a performance. The Huskies held 6-foot-6 twins Mike and Matt Mache to just nine points total, grabbed 24 offensive rebounds and had nine three-pointers. They outscored the Hilltoppers, who began the season with 10-straight wins, 22-9 in the first quarter.

OPRF’s loss to Lyons came at a time when the Bradley-bound Ka’Darryl Bell was just returning from a wrist injury. He had just seven points in the loss, but scored 16 on 6-of-9 field goals in the win over Glenbard West.

Senior forwards Gabe Levin and Alex Nesdinal will likely factor into whether the Huskies get their revenge on Lyons. Levin led OPRF with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Hilltoppers, while Nesdinal, fresh off a wrist injury himself, hit 4-of-5 three-pointers.

The last time the Huskies played LT in a televised game was 2010 when they handed the Lions a 59-55 loss in front of a sold out crowd at the field house in Oak Park. The victory snapped LT’s bid for an undefeated season at 23 wins and sparked a wild celebration as the OPRF student section, the Dawg Pound, stormed the court.
