Dominican University received a $229,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that will allow creation of a program to help students become dietitians, according to a statement from the university.
The USDA awarded 20 grants to schools with at least 25 percent Hispanic undergraduate full-time enrollment.
"Our goal is to make college education more accessible at institutions dedicated to serving the Hispanic population, while training the next generation of food and agricultural researchers who will play a key role in solving the major challenges before us," said Catherine Woteki, USDA Chief Scientist and Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics.
Dominican is the country’s only institution to offer a MBA with a coordinated program in dietetics, which meets the requirements to become a registered dietician.
