The Downtown Oak Park Board of Directors voted unanimously to support the "Renew our Parks" park district referendum at our March 8 meeting. Our board members agreed that our parks are an asset to our community, providing green space, and places for activities and respite.
A cornerstone of the Oak Park First Candidates is our commitment to fiscal responsibility. We are committed to do everything we can to maintain our high bond rating without raising taxes. A key to achieving this goal will be to explore all symbiotic opportunities between the different taxing bodies so as to maximize efficiencies.
My support for David Pope for village president comes from working with him at the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, an economic development group created by the area's top CEOs, and seeing his remarkable analytical skills up close.
Many of you will have a chance to talk with my husband, David Pope, in the run-up to our April 5 local elections. You may ask him about his vision for our community, about what he would do as village president, and about what differentiates him from his two opponents. And I'm sure that you will hear from David about his vision for honest, open, responsible local government that builds upon the strengths of our community's core values.
As co-chair of the VMA selections committee and a 28 year politically active resident of Oak Park, I would urge my fellow residents to vote for the entire Oak Park First slate. Diana Carpenter has served our village well in the last four years.
We would like to encourage Oak Parkers to vote for Vic Guarino in his bid to become a member of District 97's School Board in the April 5 election. Vic brings a high level of enthusiasm for and commitment to the Oak Park schools.
When you do, you vote for integrity and experience. You also vote for a conscientious, forward-thinking official who has proven her dedication in serving Oak Park citizens efficiently, pleasantly, and with a thoughtful eye toward problem solving.
Sharon Patchak-Layman is running for Village Clerk of Oak Park. This is a courageous act by a top notch candidate. The current clerk is a good one. So why change? Because we deserve an excellent village clerk.
