In the upcoming election for Village Board President and Trustees, I strongly urge my fellow Oak Parkers to cast their votes for the group that has a positive vision for the future of our village: the Oak Park First slate of Diana Carpenter, Mas Takiguchi, Dorothy Reid, and Ray Barbosa.
My husband and I have lived in Oak Park all of our lives, as did our parents and grandparents. In the 1930s when the population was over 60,000, my grandfather, Charles E. Gawne, served as a trustee, receiving more than 20,000 votes.
It was great to see Wednesday Journal endorse so many of the New Leadership Party candidates, particularly Robert Milstein for president, plus Martha Brock and Greg Marsey for trustee. Of course, we're anxious to let voters know that our other two candidates?#34;Geoff Baker for trustee and Sharon-Patchak Layman for village clerk?#34;will do just as good a job.
I am writing to encourage your vote for Julie Blankemeier for the District 97 school board. Her nature and disposition make her a joy to work with. Her knowledge of and concern for children is evident in many choices she has made through her life. Her passion and love would be of great benefit to all children in the district.
Asking the property owners of Oak Park to agree to a 150 percent increase in their taxes for the park district is an excessive request and demonstrates a failure by the Park District Board to spread the burden to pay for this need.
