As we are well aware, winter has had a firm grip on all of us in Chicago this year, with record snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures. This unprecedented winter has taken its toll not only on our spirits but also on water lines and infrastructures. Due to the persistent winter, the Park District of Oak Park is experiencing many challenges for getting fields safe and playable for the 2014 spring baseball and soccer seasons.
Congratulations to OPRF senior swimmer Mark Hallman, the Midtown Athletic Club Athlete of the Week. Hallman turned in a stellar showing at the swimming state finals on Saturday, taking fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (46.19) and sixth in the 50 free (21.22).
Oak Park and River Forest High School senior Tess Trinka was recently named to the IHSA's All-State Academic Team. Trinka was one of 26 student-athletes (13 males, 13 females) selected from over 500 nominees around the state.
