Dr. Carlisle Weese, 91, a resident of Oak Park for 44 years, died peacefully at his home on July 29, 2011. Born on Oct. 15, 1919, he graduated in 1942 from Northwestern University Dental School and first practiced in Chicago, then in the Forsythe Building in Oak Park from 1964 until his retirement in 2003.
Patricia Relk, 91, a lifelong resident of Oak Park, died at the Oak Brook Healthcare Centre on Sept. 5, 2011. Born in Chicago on July 28, 1920 to Cornelius and Agnes Relk, She attended Lincoln School and Oak Park and River Forest High School. She earned a teaching degree from Northwestern University.
Francis J. "Frank" Condon, 87, longtime Oak Park resident died on August 29, 2011 at West Suburban Hospital. He was born in Cicero on January 30, 1924 to Patrick and Mary Ellen Condon. Frank was a graduate of Mary Queen of Heaven Elementary School and St. Philip High School.
Rachel Avcioglu, 19, a sophomore at Oberlin University and a graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School died by strangulation, Aug. 24, in her parents' home in Oak Park. Rachel had been treated for depression for several years, said her parents, Ilhan and Carmen Avcioglu.
Evelyn "Lyn" Atwood (nee Preston), 74, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died at Oak Park Hospital on Aug. 19, 2011. Born on Feb. 17, 1937 in Oak Park to Edwin and Winifred Preston, she was raised in River Forest and graduated from Roosevelt Middle School and Oak Park and River Forest High School.
Mary Ann Genetti, 61, of Belleville, formerly of Oak Park, died on Aug. 9, 2011 surrounded by her family. Born on March 31, 1950 in Little Rock, Ark., she graduated from Althoff Catholic High School in 1968, the first female student at Althoff to become class president.
Richard F. "Dick" O'Hara, 90, of River Forest, formerly of Oak Park, died on Aug. 18, 2011. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School and St. Benedict College, during World War II, he was a member of the 392nd, 8th Air Force, Army Air Corps. After the war, he had a long career at Sears Roebuck & Company.
Leonard W. Besinger Jr., 76, of Marengo, formerly of Oak Park, died on Aug. 14, 2011 following an auto accident in New Mexico. Born in Chicago, he grew up in Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School. Like his childhood hero, Ernest Hemingway, he had a taste for fishing and adventure.
The Rev. M. Randolph Thompson did not have a problem with people viewing him as a role model. If fact, he welcomed it. He said so in an interview with Wednesday Journal in 1997 after our paper that year named him Villager of the Year.
