Garmond "Gar" Schurr, 92, of Oak Park, died on May 20, 2011 at home. Born on his grandmother's farm in western North Dakota, he graduated from North Dakota State University in 1940, then entered the U.S. Army where he served his country for 5½ years, attaining the rank of captain in the Chemical Warfare Service.
Al Belanger, 90, longtime Oak Park resident and Korean War veteran, died on June 8, 2011. Born in Chicago on April 7, 192l, the first son of Albert and Jeannette Hantz Belanger, he grew up in the Austin neighborhood and attended St. Philip High School, where he played clarinet in the band, wrote for the school paper, and was involved in Chicago Inter-Student Catholic Action (CISCA).
Ronald Stuart Wilson Chew, 77, died suddenly on June 7, 2011 in Oak Park. Born on July 15, 1933, in Philadelphia, Penn., to Marjorie Oberhaltzer and Russell Chew, he was married to Karla Hoover Chew, his partner in peace for 49 years.
Colleen E. Clarke (nee Domrose), 62, of Oak Park, died on June 2, 2011 from complications related to Multiple Sclerosis. Family and friends say she took great joy in their company s and will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, niece and friend.
