The OPRF Huskies (8-13-1) lost to the Waubonsie Valley Warriors in the waning seconds of a game on Saturday night at All Seasons Arena. The Huskies were in control for nearly the entire game when the unexpected happened and the Warriors managed two goals in the last 20 seconds to pull ahead and take the 3-2 win.
Falcons grapple at Open Last weekend the Fenwick Falcons Wrestling Club participated in the Kids Open in Peoria. A record attendance of 2,150 wrestlers, ranging in age from 5 to 14 competed. The Falcons brought down 18 of the best athletes along with parents and coaches, Jim Bragado and Nick Ruffino. First place finishers were: Aaron Garland, Nick Dardanes and Nick Kowalczuk. Second place: Jimmy Jodoin, Jimmy DiNino, Anthony Garland and Keith Rogalla. Third place: Chris Dardanes and Jack Dardanes.
An unusual week of action for the Concordia women's basketball team saw the Cougars lose in overtime to last-place Aurora University on Tuesday night by a 65-62 score before turning around to hand NIIC-leading Benedictine University their first conference loss on Saturday by a 78-72 final. The Cougars are currently in second place with a 4-2 NIIC mark, just 1/2 game behind 4-1 Benedictine.
What irony! Here I sit looking out my window at a lake effect snowstorm, while on TV, Venus Williams and Andy Roddick are sweating in the hot Australian sun where temperatures are in the 80s and fans in the crowd are wearing t-shirts and tank tops! Unless you're lucky enough to travel south during the winter, it surely makes for a long season. Oh, well, just 94 days until May 1, but who's counting!
So often they move on, forget about you, get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Maybe you made an impact, maybe one slipped through the cracks. You can't be responsible. Coach them, teach them, nurture them, and most of all prepare them for the world outside the classroom, outside the gymnasium.
