Ralph Leonard, 74, of River Forest, died suddenly on Nov. 30, 2011 while attending a theater performance. Born in Sharon, Penn. in 1936, he was the oldest of four children. His father was an engineer for Westinghouse; his mother had been a teacher.
Michael Brady, 61, of Oak Park, died at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago of a stroke on Nov. 27, 2011. Born in Chicago and raised in Bellwood, he earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola University, then entered the Peace Corps, serving in South Korea.
Rosemary McVean, 90, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died on Nov. 8, 2011, after a brief illness. A resident of River Forest for over 70 years, she attended Oak Park and River Forest High School and Rosary College.
Gerald G. Amen, 74, of Oak Park, died on Nov. 29, 2011, in his home. Born on Feb. 25, 1937 in Chicago to Harvey J. and Edna C. (nee Waalk, born Waack), he grew up at Lexington and Kilpatrick avenues on the West Side, attended May School and was a 1956 graduate of Austin High School.
Robert E. Zak of Brookfield, formerly of Oak Park, died on Nov. 24, 2011. Born on June 5, 1922, he grew up in Forest Park, flew airplanes out of the airport in Westchester in the early 1940s and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He assisted in the rescue of his brother, George, after he escaped from a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany near the end of the war.
Robert W. Gordon, a longtime resident of River Forest, died on Nov. 24, 2011 at home. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School and Beloit College in Beloit, Wis., he spent his entire working career in the energy business with Consolidated Coal Company/CONSOL Energy, Inc.
Barbara Ann Emmick Rank, formerly of Oak Park, died in Vinaros, Spain, on Oct. 16, 2011. She was born in 1937 and, after graduating (magna cum laude) from Hope College in 1960 and doing graduate work in Spanish at the University of Wisconsin, she and her husband spent a year in Madrid, Spain as Fulbright Scholars.
