Fenwick closed out its season on Saturday in the State swimming and diving finals with a 13th place finish. The Friars advanced to the finals in four of the nine events in which they had competitors at State, and earned top 10 finishes in three of them.
It wasn't the prettiest win, but Trinity came away with the "W" against Riverside-Brookfield, 58-44, on Feb. 22 in the semifinal of the Lyons Sectional. The Blazers eventually lost to Fenwick, 69-62, in the title game on Thursday (see article on back page).
Fenwick's trip to the Class AA Dual Team State Wrestling Meet on Saturday was short-lived, but not without fanfare. The Windmills' second trip to Cuba was just as spectacular, educational, humbling and invigorating as the first. Each of the 10 Windmills players and the coaches and the chaperones came away with their own special story--each person's heart was touched.
The Fenwick boys' swim team found little to stop them at the Oak Park Sectional Saturday in front of a packed home crowd, many of them Fenwick fans, as the Friars advanced swimmers and divers to State in nine of 12 events and captured the sectional title with a score of 328.
An injury plagued season came to an abrupt halt on Thursday night for the OPRF girls' basketball team. The Huskies (22-8), who have had several players either out with injuries or playing with pain throughout the season, fell to Riverside-Brookfield 63-44 in the Oak Park Regional championship.
Larkin Beauchet was a short thin blond half-Irish, half-French (I can only guess) kid I went to school with some ? let's just say years ago. Lark was quiet, unassuming, but likable. We pronounced his last name incorrectly but he didn't care. Bo Shay was close enough and harmless.
