Thomas Arthur Capizzi, 93, a longtime resident of Naperville, formerly of Oak Park, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his Tabor Hills residence. Born on March 12, 1919 in Lockport, he was a World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific, North African, and European campaigns.
Felicitas "Feliz" Berlanga, 60, of River Forest died on April 17, 2012, surrounded by her family at the University of Illinois, Chicago Hospital. A passionate advocate, educator, and lawyer with the Illinois Education Association, she was also an avid traveler and fearless explorer with an appreciation for beauty in our world.
Donald Peaslee, 85, former owner of Peaslee Hardware (now Schauer/Do It Best) and former president of the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce during the 1960s and '70s, died on April 26, 2012. Born on Jan. 18, 1927 in Oak Park to Eugene and Isa Peaslee, he grew up at 917 Chicago Ave. and attended Holmes Elementary and Oak Park and River Forest High School.
Gilbert "Gil" Sorber, a 41-year Oak Park resident, died on April 22, 2012 in Lombard. An Eagle Scout as a youth, he graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. in chemistry and an M.S. in industrial engineering.
Dr. Gary Lee Zwicky, 77, died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at his Oak Park home in Belmont Village after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on June, 18 1934 in Oshkosh, Wis., he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his doctor of music arts, the first to be given in organ, from the University of Illinois at Champaign.
Elaine Merrill "Susie" Holmes Zwicky, 73, died on April 21, 2012 at her Oak Park home. Born on May 7, 1938, she received her bachelor's degree in music from the University of Illinois at Champaign and her master's degree from Eastern Illinois University.
Stephen A. Smith, 40, of Elmwood Park, died suddenly of a stroke on April 18, 2012. Born on Feb. 10, 1972, his early years included all of the childhood sports at St. Luke Grade School in River Forest where he was an altar server. While at Oak Park and River Forest High School, he played football and water polo.
Raymond R. Voight, 80, of Forest Park, formerly of Oak Park, died on April 16, 2012. He is survived by his children, Charlene (Erick) Larsen, Marla Schuppe, Juanita (Timothy) Sener, Steven Voight, and Richard Voight.
