Mario C. Rossi, 87, died peacefully on August 9, 2012 at Rush Oak Park Hospital. He suffered from end-stage prostate cancer, kidney failure, congestive heart problems, and dementia. Born on April 25, 1925 to the late Andrea Rossi and Teresa Armellino, he served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal.
Marjorie Ann E. Benedict, 81, of River Forest died on Aug. 8, 2012 in her home after a brief illness. Born on April 11, 1931 in Le Roy Township, Iowa, to Ferdinand and Emily Eggerding, she spent her younger years in Luzerne, Iowa where her father was the schoolmaster at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Richard W. Bailey, 92, died on Aug. 3, 2012. Born on Feb. 24, 1920 in Peoria, he was an Army veteran of WW II and lived most of his life in Oak Park. After attending Purdue University and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, he worked as a mechanical engineer for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for more than 30 years.
Jimmie Lee (Jim) Beach, 63, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 27, 2012, after a 19-month struggle with cancer. Born on May 31, 1949 in Royal Oak, Mich., to the late Roy and Lorell Beach, he attended Troy High School and Northern Michigan and Western Michigan universities.
Eleanor Rapp, 91, of Chicago, a former longtime resident of Oak Park, died on Aug. 6, 2012 at Midwest Hospice Care Center in Skokie. Born on June 16, 1921 to Frank and Teresa Augustine in Chicago, Eleanor and her husband, Norman, were active in the Cursillo movement, a series of Catholic retreats for married couples.
Frank Vobornik, 79, of Oak Park, died on July 30, 2012. A village resident for over 40 years who raised his children here, Mr Vobornik loved his vacations, which included Devil's Lake, the Smokey Mountains with grandkids, Colorado motorcycling, and the many cruises he took with his wife and family.
Rev. Edward Maxa, 78, died unexpectedly on July 26, 2012 of heart failure while enjoying a day off in Wisconsin. He was a senior priest in residence at Immaculate Conception Church on West 44th Street in Chicago.
Rev. Joseph B. Ruiz, 73, pastor emeritus of St. Edmund Parish in Oak Park, died unexpectedly on July 22, 2012 at Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Evergreen Park, where he had been serving as a senior priest. He was a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago for 46 years.
