Rose Sugden, 97, died peacefully at West Suburban Hospital on Sept. 26, 2012. Upon her retirement from teaching in 1980, she worked tirelessly for the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association and its scholarship fund.
Col. Richard A. Radtke, U.S. Army Retired, 86, of Highland, died on Sept. 23, 2012 at his residence. Born on April 20, 1926 in Oak Park, he graduated high school in 1944 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
Erica Cecilie Weinberg, 90, died on Aug. 29, 2012 at the University of Chicago Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Berlin, Germany on April 2, 1922 to Edward and Kathe (Staub) Müller, she was a clinical social worker. For over 50 years, she worked in a wide range of foster home and mental health agencies in Chicago and western Massachusetts, where her responsibilities included training social work student interns from Smith College.
Ilene Wimberley Snyder, 65, died peacefully on July 25, 2012 at her Oak Park home with her husband of over 36 years at her side. Born on Aug. 17, 1946 in Monroe, La. to CV and Doris Wimberley, she grew up in West Monroe, La. She attended Louisiana College and worked in social services and counseling jobs in Lake Providence and Pineville, La. for several years. After earning a Master of Elementary Education degree from the University of South Carolina in 1974, she taught fourth grade at Ft. Jackson Elementary School in Columbia, S.C. and in Tampa, Fla.
Virginia (Ginger) Folgers, nee Kickert, died peacefully in her home on Sept. 17, 2012 of cancer. Born in Oak Park in 1937, Virginia went to Oak Park and River Forest High School (class of '55) and attended Wheaton College and the University of Hawaii (class of '60). She was married for 54 years to her husband and high school sweetheart, Kenneth Folgers.
Dr. Raul Gaston Saavedra, 76, who resided in the Oak Park and River Forest area for over 40 years, died on Sept. 13, 2012. Born on Aug. 31, 1936 in Potosi, Bolivia, South America, he was raised in Cochabamba, Bolivia, attended La Salle Primaria and Collegio Sucre in Cochabamba, Bolivia, attended the Universidad Mayor de San Simon y San Andres, and received his degree of Medico Cirujano.
Basia "Betty" Rubinstein, 86, died on Sept. 3, 2012. Born in Kielce, Poland, she married Morris Rubinstein (z"l) in the Kielce ghetto 70 years ago. Basia and her brother, Leon (z"l) were the sole Holocaust survivors of the Zakowski family. She honored her lost loved ones by daily sharing her own experiences.
