I'm considering a new profession, one that may lead to a network sit-com, or a cable reality show, or maybe even a stint as a late-night talk show host. Perhaps I can, from time to time, fill in for Bill Sheft, who writes jokes in Sports Illustrated on a weekly basis.
To tell the truth, I started out as a groupie for Peter Barber. It was all quite innocent?#34;he and some other Beye school parents and staff members were members of the "Beye-O-Rythms" band that played at Beye's talent show and end-of-school picnic. Peter played a mean bass guitar.
Because township government does not receive much attention, elections for township officials are often unopposed. For example, in my bid for re-election as Oak Park Township Assessor this April 5, I am the only candidate on the ballot. Although I like to think that the lack of opposition is a vote of confidence in my performance as assessor, it may well be that I am the only person in the community crazy enough to actually want to be Assessor.
To bolster their opposition to extending the downtown TIF, Nile Wendorf and the New Leadership Party slate have been referring to a 1999 academic article by Richard Dye and David Merriman published by the U of I's Institute of Government & Public Affairs.
Everyone who lives in Oak Park is threatened by the escalating yearly burden of our property taxes, which is making it increasingly difficult for many of us to sustain our lives here. One political party has been in control of the village for 50 years.
I urge you to re-elect Carolyn Newberry Schwartz to the District 97 School Board on April 5. Carolyn has been an exceptional board member for the past four years, and her experience will be a tremendous asset to the board and the community for the next four years.
It is with wholehearted enthusiasm that I support Kathy Tortorice for District 97 school board. Kathy is a member of the Critical Issues Process on the Instructional Delivery Study Group at Brooks Middle School as well as co-vice president for the sixth grade PTO and is ahead of the game in understanding the important issues that confront our schools.
