An injury plagued season came to an abrupt halt on Thursday night for the OPRF girls' basketball team. The Huskies (22-8), who have had several players either out with injuries or playing with pain throughout the season, fell to Riverside-Brookfield 63-44 in the Oak Park Regional championship.
Larkin Beauchet was a short thin blond half-Irish, half-French (I can only guess) kid I went to school with some ? let's just say years ago. Lark was quiet, unassuming, but likable. We pronounced his last name incorrectly but he didn't care. Bo Shay was close enough and harmless.
The Oak Park Boys' Basketball Regional, made up of Kelly, Gage Park, Curie and Austin, should be a breeze for John Quinn's Friars, although the head coach isn't looking past anyone, especially not a team out of the Public League.
At its final home game of the regular season, Trinity celebrated three players on the team: Alison Sansone, Katie Jarger and Rachel Blonski in a special Senior's Night. For Jarger, it became an extra special night as she surpassed the 1,000-point mark of her varsity career on her first basket, a 3-pointer.
AYSO spring soccer Registration for the 2005 AYSO spring soccer season will take place on Saturday, March 9, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Longfellow Center. The center is located at Ridgeland and Jackson in Oak Park.
Last Thursday, I happened to catch the E! network showing of "Serving for Tsunami Relief," a benefit sponsored by the Tennis Channel, which, as you know, is unavailable in the Oak Park/River Forest /Forest Park area.
