A lawyer representing the family of an 80-year-old dementia patient who was killed in an Oak Park nursing home allegedly by another resident said he's familiar with the practice of individuals transferring ownership of problematic nursing facilities back and forth. That appears to be the case with Oak Park Healthcare, 625 N. Harlem Ave., where Anibal Calderon was struck by a 66-year-old resident in his same ward in February.
Oak Park police arrested four Chicago teenagers who were allegedly the aggressors in a fight in the 300 block of Lake Street Monday afternoon. Police responded to a fight in progress around 3:30 p.m. on Lake Street just east of Ridgeland Avenue, said Police Sgt. Michael Richardson.
River Forest police arrested two Chicago residents early Thursday morning outside a 7-Eleven they had just attempted to rob. Police responded to the store at Division Street and Harlem Avenue at 1:20 a.m. and took Kirby Wise, 38, and Stephany Powell, 51, into custody as they tried to escape in an unoccupied car parked in the alley behind the store, police said.
During a presentation at Roosevelt Middle School last week, Internet Safety Specialist Sarah Migas told about 20 parents that in the digital world of 2012, pretty much everything is up for grabs. Her job is to teach kids how to think critically and make responsible decisions about what they put online.
