The front doors of Ascension Church in Oak park and a nearby "Respect for Life" sign were vandalized with red paint some time between 10:30 p.m. Monday night and 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, when Rev. Larry McNally, Ascension's pastor, was alerted.
Five individuals suspected in a string of robberies at or near the Green Line station at Cicero and Lake in the Austin community have been apprehended, according to Chicago police. The suspects were charged with robbery or attempted robbery related to incidents occurring at the station from March through June.
Following initial approval in March, the Oak Park village board gave final approval to a set of policies related to penalties for minors possessing tobacco, attending drinking parties, or having less than 30 grams of cannabis on their person.

A lawyer representing the family of an 80-year-old dementia patient who was killed in an Oak Park nursing home allegedly by another resident said he's familiar with the practice of individuals transferring ownership of problematic nursing facilities back and forth. That appears to be the case with Oak Park Healthcare, 625 N. Harlem Ave., where Anibal Calderon was struck by a 66-year-old resident in his same ward in February.
