Rev. Cornelius (Neil) Van Dyke, 72, died suddenly on July 7, 2013 at his home in Stickney. Born on Dec. 10, 1940 in Oak Park, he graduated from St. Angela Catholic School and Austin High School and had a long career in the plumbing and public works profession. His career included supervising staff, developing programs and negotiating union contracts as director of Public Works in Riverside.
Eugenia C. Szymoniak (nee Chmielewski), 93 of Oak Park, formerly of Cicero, died on July 2, 2013. She was the wife of the late William J.; the mother of Joyce (the late Roger) Barloga and Victoria (John) Dyrek; grandmother of Robin (Chris) Dunn, R. Jon (Denise), Amy and Aminda; and great-grandma of Emily Grace Barloga and Roger Christopher Dunn.
Catherine (nee Clausen) Deam, 69, a longtime Oak Park volunteer and community leader, died on June 26, 2013. Born on March 23, 1944 in Chicago, she spent her youth in Chicago, was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics, and a minor in French.
Margaret Nancy Collins, 88, of Clarendon Hills and a longtime resident of Oak Park and River Forest, died peacefully surrounded by her children and their spouses on June 9, 2013, in Hinsdale Hospital after a brief illness. The youngest of 10 children of John and Helen "Nellie" Barrett of Chicago's Austin neighborhood, she and her husband, Mike, raised eight boys in Oak Park as well as River Forest.
Claire Ann Storto (nee Sansone), 80, a resident of North Riverside, formerly of River Forest, died on June 29, 2013. Born on July 14, 1932, she was a graduate of Michigan State University, earning a master's degree in education and taught fifth- and sixth-graders at Betsy Ross School in Forest Park before marrying and beginning her own family.
Heidi Ann Moll Schoedel, 51, of Oak Park, died on June 27, 2013 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Born on Aug. 27, 1961, in Chicago, she was one of the co-founders of Exodus World Service. Her faith led her to develop this Christian community to care for refugees coming to the United States.
Donna M. Bonfield (nee Sweeney), 74, a 46-year resident of Oak Park, died in Arlington Heights on June 24, 2013. Born on July 19, 1938 in Chicago to Edwin and Josephine Sweeney, she was a graduate of St. Angela Elementary School and Kelvyn Park High School.
