Fenwick kicker Mike Cahill nailed a 34-yard field goal as time expired to lift the visiting Friars past Brother Rice 24-21 Saturday in the semifinals of the Chicago Catholic League playoffs.

The Fenwick girls swimming team posted a score of 350, outdistancing sectional runner-up OPRF (269). The Friars won 11 of 12 races Saturday to notch their 11th straight sectional championship.

OPRF freshman cross-country runner Mary Blankemeier made quite a first impression with a fifth-place finish at Saturday's Class 3A state final meet. Blankemeier (17:07) set the pace for the Huskies' 13th place showing overall.

Sal Flight is a hard guy to catch. Although he runs anywhere from 70 to 80 miles a week, the Wednesday Journal slowed down the Fenwick star just long enough to talk with him in Getting to know.....

The Oak Park and River Forest girls volleyball team's best season since 1987 came to an end Saturday in the IHSA Supersectional with a straight-sets loss to perennial powerhouse Mother McAuley.

The OPRF football team lost to Maine South 34-21 in the second round of the Class 8A playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Oak Park Stadium. The Huskies finished 9-2 this season.
