? Why does Jackson Boulevard run straight from Desplaines Avenue in Forest Park but sharply jogs at both Maple and Grove in Oak Park before going straight again through Chicago to the lake?
? Is there or should there be an ordinance prohibiting mowing, blowing and edging grass on Sundays?
? Why are enormous 18 wheelers, garbage trucks, huge dump trucks, huge dump trucks with trailers carryng construction debris going down Home Avenue between Washington and Madison?
? When is the park district going to do something about the deplorable condition of the fence around Mills Park?
Who can find answers to these momentous questions? Thanks for your help.
? Editor's note: We can answer a couple of the questions. The jog on Jackson is the remnant of the Westward Ho Golf Course, which once covered the land from Madison to Jackson, Grove to Harlem. The main clubhouse still exists on Carpenter Street. The course eventually went northward ho to North Avenue, then disappeared altogether. For more on historical questions, call Frank Lipo at the Historical Society, 848-6755.
As for the Mills Park fence, the Pleasant Home Foundation recently had the sections around their entryway restored, but it cost a lot of money, so the whole fence will take some time. Call Laura Thompson at 383-2654 for more info.
