The sports blog at www.oakpark.com, Wednesday Journal's new website, is going to blow your mind. Why?
Because the topics range from nothing in particular to everything specific, and the posts will be more regular than a old man on ex-lax.
That's right. We're not going the conventional blog route with this one. This sports blog is going to transform the face of civilization as you know it.
Some guarantees I'm working out with management include this particular sports blog providing viewers with cappuccino lattes and re-runs of Leave it to Beaver. Every viewer will win a free three-night stay at the Taliban Taj Mahal, located in the foothills of the Afghanistan/Pakistan border — and, it will be all inclusive!
In fact, every time you visit the blog you will win $1 million in cash, delivered to you on your very own pack mule. Doesn't that sound great? Your very own pack mule!
In all seriousness, the blog is going to contain regular posts on sports, whether it be pro, college, high school or youth levels. If you're a runner and you ran a race and did well and sent me a little blurb on it, or we covered it, we just may post it to the blog, publish it in the paper, tweet about it at our twitter account — OakParkSports — pop it up on Wednesday Journal's Facebook page and/or hire an acrobatic plane to sky-write it over the village. We may head down to the corner of Lake and Marion and holler it to passersby for good measure.
The blog won't only be a place where sports news gets posted first, well before the print edition, it's also going to be a place where opinions will be shared, decisions scrutinized, achievements recognized as well as our own thoughts, nightmares and hallucinations revealed (huh?). I guess what I'm trying to say is, we won't know exactly the scope of this blog until we dive headfirst into the rock quarry and hack away at the limestone.
What we hope to achieve is a vast spectrum of content that reaches as far as relevant sports news, as opposed to me simply digitally publicizing my daydreams, which are vast and full of valiant endeavors on my part (I win in all of them, if uninterrupted).
We can't cover every sporting event in town because the cloning we experimented with a while back to cut costs on freelancers only yielded two malnourished llamas, both with water-on-the-brain (they were worthless, but adorable).
So submit anything related to Oak Park and/or River Forest sports, for this blog is your blog, this blog is my blog, from Austin to Harlem, from Roosevelt to North. Let's recognize and publicize the athletic achievements of our friends and family members — and maybe some strangers.
Check out the site and the blog and be prepared to have your mind blown ... or bewildered, much like this column.
