Cougars roll to win in Milwaukee

The Concordia women's soccer team evened their season record at 3-3-1 with a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sept. 20.

Kari Zielke's fifth goal of the season gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead before Maria Limon struck for her third and fourth goals?#34;the latter coming just 28 seconds before halftime for a 3-0 lead. Kristin Prange upped the lead to four before the Raiders got on the board in the 68th minute from a goal off of a corner kick. Jackie Konrad restored the four-goal lead in the 82nd minute with her second of the season before a late Raider goal closed out the scoring.

The Cougars open NIIC conference play on Saturday with a contest at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Football: The Cougars lost their Illini-Badger Conference opener to Eureka College on Saturday afternoon by a 32-13 final in Eureka.

The Cougars put together two fourth-quarter scores sandwiched around Eureka's final score. Quarterback Craig Platt scored the Cougars' first touchdown on a 2-yard run and would find tight end Sean Yerkes on a 9-yard pass for the final score.

Concordia highlights included tailback Tony Fontana rushing 19 times for 83 yards and the Cougar secondary recording three interceptions?#34;two by Justin Wilhelms and one by Demir Fisher.

Volleyball: The Cougars ended two weeks of frustration with a resounding 30-21, 30-27, 30-22 win at Rockford College on Saturday. Concordia's hitting game was sharp as they recorded 50 kills and a .275 attack percentage. Leading the way were Katrina Kramer with 12 kills, Jessica Gonzalez with 11 and Sarah Steinke with 10. Meanwhile, the Cougar defense recorded 57 digs, led by Jessica Theilen's 19, and held the Regents to a .151 attack percentage.

Stars bounce back

The Dominican soccer team (7-1-0) rebounded from its first loss on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering in Dominican's Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) opener.

Nick Wisniewski scored a pair of goals in the win for the Stars while Dave Niederholtmeyer added a goal and had a pair of assists.
