Katherine Rack's return to Detweiller Park in Peoria Saturday was reminiscent of her visit as a freshman last season. In 2006, Rack ran off to a 10th place finish in 17:19 at the Class AA State tournament. On Saturday at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational, the sophomore speedster finished eighth overall in 17:33, outrunning 311 other runners.
OPRF didn't place in the top 10 as a team, but the Huskies still turned out some good times. Other finishers included Evangelie Zachos in 19:33 (121st), Pauline Lazzeretti in 19:40 (130th), Heather Joyce in 19:48 (135th), and Daiga Eizis in 20:22 (168th).
The Class 3A State tournament will be run at Detweiller Park on Nov. 3.
On Thursday, Rack led the Huskies to a dual meet victory over Glenbard West and Proviso West at Schiller Woods. Rack finished the 3-mile course in 18:46 to finish first, while Zachos took third overall in 20:20.
The Huskies will now gear up for their own invitational. OPRF hosts the Roy Gummerson invite at Schiller Woods on Saturday (9 a.m.).
