Skidmore will be missed at the parks

One of the wonderful assets in Oak Park is the park district. At its root, of course, are the individuals who work for the park district to maintain and grow our beautiful parks and programs.

With that in mind, I have mixed emotions about the departure of Chris Skidmore from his post as program supervisor at the Park District of Oak Park — happiness for him, since he will be enjoying a great homecoming at a similar post in Columbus, Ohio; sadness for me and other volunteers who have had the pleasure of getting to know Chris over the years.

In particular, since I began volunteering as a coach for the boys and girls basketball leagues two years ago, Chris has proven to be a dedicated leader with obvious enthusiasm for guiding children in athletic pursuits. I always enjoyed connecting with Chris and he was most accommodating and responsive to questions and other issues that inevitably arise when dealing with large groups of people and factors such as scheduling.

I am confident that I am far from alone in wishing Chris the best in his future endeavors.

Chris is impressive - hard working, intelligent and commited to helping the children. Our only regret is we could not recruit him to run one of the facilities or join our operating team! Maybe we should look at Columbus! We look forward to hearing about all of his wonderful accomplishments in the future!
