I read your article about the new human chess board at Lincoln Elementary [It's Their Move, News, Sept. 4]. Mr. Childress is, as ever, an amazing educator and mentor and this project is a real asset to the school.
But I'm hoping that you will update your article to include the fact that the funds necessary for this project were donated by the Lincoln Elementary Girl Scouts, raised through their fundraising work. Not only will it acknowledge the work and contribution of the girls, but it adds an interesting depth to the story — children giving and making a difference in their own school. And I don't believe it takes anything away from Mr. Childress' efforts.
