Local group wins Battle of the Bands at Illinois State Fair

On Sat., Aug. 20, local band Javier and the Bear competed in the 2005 Illinois Parks and Recreation "Teen Battle of the Bands" at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. The band won the judged competition, which was scored on clarity of sound, vocals, pitch and musicianship, the quality and complexity of original songs, stage presence, appearance of the band and audience response.

Band members are Tim Madden, vocals and guitar, Hans Michel, lead guitar, Joe O'Connor, drums, and Dan Muriello, bass. They are 2004 graduates of Oak Park and River Forest and Fenwick high schools. Javier and the Bear's first place prizes include a video produced by the Sterling Group of New Lenox, a band makeover, and a featured story in Suburban Nite Life Magazine. The band recently recorded a CD in the local studio of Oak Parker Rob Waller.
