Basia Rubinstein, 86, Holocaust survivor
Basia "Betty" Rubinstein, 86, died on Sept. 3, 2012. Born in Kielce, Poland, she married Morris Rubinstein (z"l) in the Kielce ghetto 70 years ago. Basia and her brother, Leon (z"l) were the sole Holocaust survivors of the Zakowski family. She honored her lost loved ones by daily sharing her own experiences.
Betty Rubinstein is survived by her children, Ida (Mark) Manning, Charlotte Rubinstein (Mike Salvati) of Oak Park, and Joyce Pollakoff; her grandchildren, Joe Salvati and his wife Mel Selan, Vince Salvati, Zachary Pollakoff and his wife Nancy Rosenbloom, and Alexandra "Xani" Pollakoff. All who knew her cherished her.
Memorial contributions to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, the Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center, or CJE Senior Life Kosher to Go will be appreciated.
