With four recent area graduates pursuing pro baseball dreams, each week throughout the summer Wednesday Journal will be keeping readers informed of their progress. Stats are through Sunday.

Making his first appearance in eight days, Justin Olson fell to 8-8 Sunday when Double A New Britain lost a 4-2 decision to Trenton. He gave up back-to-back homers in the first but then retired 10-of-12 before being lifted with two men on in the fifth. Olson was charged with three earned runs and recorded seven of his 12 outs via the strikeout. He's averaging 8.15 K's per nine innings.

Mike Santoro went 2-for-6 in two games last week as the DH for the Giants' rookie team in Arizona. He had two hits and an RBI Saturday as the Giants beat Texas. Santoro is hitting .313 with five RBIs in five games with the rookie club.

Vasili Spanos had one hit in six at-bats last week during Midland's five-game series with Frisco. He put the RockHounds ahead with an RBI double on Friday in a game Midland would lose 6-4. Spanos has 79 RBIs in 103 games split between Single A Stockton and Double A Midland.

In a rare appearance at first base, Blake Whealy went 0-for-3 with a walk, two strikeouts, and a ground out in his lone appearance last week, August 2 against Dunedin. He's hitting .215 in 73 games.
