Resale shop for teenagers coming to Oak Park
Society Girls opening on Harrison Street

By Anna Lothson
A new one-stop resale shop for teenagers and young women will soon fill a vacant space on Harrison Street in the Oak Park Arts District.
Although the exact opening date isn't set, Traci Weathers and Pamela Walls hope to open Society Girls Shop as early as September at 128 Harrison St. The store will include clothing, accessories, jewelry and even books, along with many other trinkets that pertain to young women.
The co-owners expect Society Girls will fill a retail gap that exists in the district and offer goods that aren't easily found elsewhere in Oak Park.
"I think it will be a great location for those wanting to shop," Weathers said. "It's the total woman and products that encompass the total woman."
She said the goal of the store is to offer one-stop shopping at an economical price. They are aiming to provide a trendy vibe that will attract high school and college-age students in the area.
Weathers and Walls currently run a Society Girls Club where they work with teenage girls, but this shop will help expand that mission. They have plans to host monthly events geared toward their audience, such as featured makeup artists, skin care specialists and fashion designers.
The atmosphere and creativity in the Arts District make it an attractive location for such a venture, they say, and those characteristics attracted the duo to the area. Collectively, the business partners are excited about the visibility of the area and the family-oriented feel Oak Park offers.
"It's really up and coming," Weathers said. "A trendy resale shop will add to the area."
