John Stanger’s article [A DOOPer’s memories of Dear Old Oak Park, LifeLines, June 6] does bring back a lot of memories of how things were in “the good old days.” His comment about the Lamar Theatre being the one most visited by older folks is true, and I had forgotten about that. During 1965, I spent some time at the Lamar as the projectionist while I went to school days and worked nights. One of the films had a scene that included a simulated breaking of the film (all part of the show – not a real break), and later I found that my friend’s parents were in the audience and thought that I was at fault. I think I finally convinced them that it was part of the movie, but I’ll never be quite sure that they believed me. I think the movie was The Great Race, and had VHS or DVD existed in the ’60s, I could have rented a copy and proven my story to them.
