Lyn Atwood, 74, Longtime Oak Parker, retired wire operator

Evelyn "Lyn" Atwood (nee Preston), 74, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died at Oak Park Hospital on Aug. 19, 2011. Born on Feb. 17, 1937 in Oak Park to Edwin and Winifred Preston, she was raised in River Forest and graduated from Roosevelt Middle School and Oak Park and River Forest High School. Ms. Atwood worked at Lehman Brothers as a wire operator until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed antiquing and spending time with her family.

Lyn Atwood is survived by her children, Elaine (James) Maggio, Sandra (David) Schlacks, David (Joan), and Lawrence (Rita); her mother, Winifred Smedley; her siblings, Patricia (Walter) Molo and Edwin (Maralee) Preston; her 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held on Aug. 23 and a funeral service on Aug. 24 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park, followed by interment at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Care, Rush Oak Park Hospital, 520 S. Maple Ave., Oak Park, IL 60304 are appreciated.
