What a wonderful experience I had one day last week while shopping along Marion Street when I came upon the newest lawn in Oak Park. My response to Wednesday Journal's invitation last week is "Keep it Green!"
Having lived in Oak Park for 8 years, I have always noted the absence of water. What about a water fountain surrounded by comfy benches, or a mini wading creek (ala Brookfield Zoo), or a goldfish pond, or a water spray park (think mini-Millennium Park)?
Perhaps one of our multitude of excellent landscaping companies in the area could take on the challenge (or make it a combined effort)? I've noticed that the places that are the most populated in this area are those that encourage gathering (try to get a seat at the Caribou Coffee on Harlem any morning!).
Keep it green!
Keep the Sawyer College Square green. Install some benches, a small stage, and turn it into a bughouse square performance place.
Musicians, magicians, actors, garage bands, performance artists, spoken wordsters, Doopers and Poopers could have a place to exhibit their talent, vent their rants, and stupify or astound their audience with their talent or lack of it.
It could be more entertaining than watching the current village board on television.
