Subdividing Wesley lot legal, but wrong

We are aware of the issues surrounding the former Lussenhop property at 947 S. Wesley. Martha and John Lussenhop were led to believe that they sold their gem of a home and garden lot to people who would honor and care for them. That was their clear intent.

They were, in essence, lied to by members of the Spillane family who are in the realty business. Spillanes, you have a legal right to break up the lot for profit. Just because you can do something legally does not make it desirable, ethical or fair. Your proposal to split the property looks like it was motivated by greed.

We are writing to ask you to consider doing the ethical thing instead. Re-sell the home with its side lot to people who will take care of both the home and garden and you can make a profit on that.

Oak Park has a unique character. We don't want to be another Hinsdale. If you decide to develop the side lot, it just may hurt your business much more than the profit you will make.

You are a neighborhood business, and the neighborhood is talking and watching to see if you will act responsibly.
