Burglar accused of starting house fire

Jason Virgil Peters, 18, of 526 S. Wesley, was arrested the afternoon of Aug. 23 after witnesses allegedly saw him exit the rear of a home on the 500 block of S. Ridgeland. Peters, who was caught on the 400 block of Adams, reportedly was covered with soot. After being identified, he was charged with burglary, arson and criminal damage to property.

Jerale R. Market, 20, of 4932 W. Huron was arrested on the 5900 block of Corcoran, the afternoon of Aug. 19. Police say he was holding a bag containing a laptop computer stolen in a burglary on the 500 block of Washington.

Theft

Police arrested at least eight people for retail theft last week, including an Oak Park girl.

Luis Malave, 33, of Hartford, Conn., was arrested, the afternoon of Aug. 21, after he allegedly walked out of the CVS Pharmacy, 6748 Roosevelt, without paying for $560 worth of merchandise.

The night of Aug. 17, Chabris E. Link, 20, of 720 N. Long, allegedly was observed placing a bottle of vodka down his pants and leaving the Dominick's, 259 Lake. He was also charged with resisting arrest.

Gregory J. Marshall, 49, of 7439 S. Cole, and Regina A. Bonds, 44, of 1024 N. Waller, were arrested, the afternoon of Aug. 20, after they allegedly stole merchandise from the Dominick's, 259 Lake.

Bill Hamilton, 55, of 50 N. Hoyne, was arrested, the afternoon of Aug. 20, after allegedly stealing merchandise from the CVS Pharmacy, 6748 Roosevelt.

David Elliott, 52, of 3636 S. Prairie, Chicago, was arrested, the afternoon of Aug. 23, after he allegedly stole several pieces of clothing from a store on the 1100 block of Lake.

River Forest police arrested Wayne L. Phillips, 48, after he was reportedly observed stealing merchandise at the Jewel, 7525 Lake.

Vehicle, garage burglary

Cars continue to be burglarized in Oak Park, the majority by breaking side windows. An unlocked garage on the 100 block of Linden was entered overnight, Aug. 17, and the windows of two cars broken. A GPS unit and other electronics were stolen.

Cars were also burglarized on the first block of Harrison and 1100 block of N. Austin. Car windows were broken in likely burglary attempts on the 100 block of S. Kenilworth, 300 block of S. Austin, 1200 block of N. Lombard and two on the 900 block of Ontario.

Garages were burglarized on the 700, 800 and 1100 blocks of Woodbine, 1200 block of N. Forest, 100 block of N. Lombard, 500 and 1100 blocks of S. East, 1100 block of Wesley and 200 block of S. Kenilworth.

Drugs

Jason M. Lietzau, 32, of 104 McCabe Drive, Streamwood, was stopped for an alleged traffic offense on the first block of Jackson, the afternoon of Aug. 17. A name check determined he was wanted by the Cook County Sheriff for violation of conditional probation. A custody search then allegedly turned up a controlled substance. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license. Lietzau will stay in the county jail until Sept. 11, when he has a court hearing.

Stevie Pride, 42, of 1610 3rd Ave., Maywood, was arrested on the first block of N. Harlem, the afternoon of Aug. 21, after he allegedly phoned the Jiffy Lube, 215 S. Harlem, and threatened that he would get a gun and come to the store. A custodial search of Pride allegedly found a baggie containing cocaine and marijuana.

Battery

Robert D. Phillips, 22, of 4402 Washington Blvd., was a passenger in a car pulled over for an alleged traffic violation on the 1100 block of Division just after midnight, Aug. 23. Phillips allegedly refused to exit the car, slapped the hand of an officer, and struggled as he was pulled out. He was charged with battery to a police officer and obstructing. The driver, Brandon T. Phillips, 21, was ticketed for an expired registration, illegal transportation of alcohol and having no valid driver's license.

Tsha Harris, 28, of 807 Fillmore, was arrested, the afternoon of Aug. 18, after she allegedly inflicted numerous injuries on a man.

Outside warrant

Shomar Yarbrough, 25, of 5044 W. Superior, was stopped for an alleged traffic violation on the first block of N. Austin, the morning of Aug. 21. He was driving on a suspended license and was wanted by the Cook County Sheriff on a DUI warrant.

Marco Cardenas, 27, of Stone Park, was stopped for an alleged traffic violation in an alley behind the 300 block of S. Kenilworth, the afternoon of Aug. 23. He allegedly had no valid driver's license and was wanted on a DuPage County arrest warrant.

Jerry J. Jackson, 26, of 1448 N. Central, was stopped as a suspicious person on the 200 block of S. Lombard, the afternoon of Aug. 21. He was wanted by Hazel Crest police on a criminal trespass warrant.

William K. Jasch, 20, of 22 W 027 Thorndale, Medinah, was stopped for suspicious activity near a known drug spot on the 500 block of S. Austin, the afternoon of Aug. 18. He was wanted by Westmont police for failure to appear in court.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from Aug. 17- Aug 24. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
