Police Chief Rick Tanksley announced two new beat officers Tuesday.
25-year veteran Ed Hadac has been assigned to replace longtime Avenue Business District beat officer Ed Polfus. Tanksley said Hadac, a graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, "comes from the same mold" as Polfus.
"He has the right temperament, knowledge and experience to handle these duties," Tanksley said of Hadac, who started work on his new beat Tuesday. Polfus, who retired Saturday after 10 years on that beat, has agreed to return to his old job long enough to walk Hadac around the neighborhood and introduce him to area business people.
Responding to requests from residents of the southeast area of the village, Tanksley announced that a second resident beat officer, or RBO, will be assigned to the area. Residents had noted at a July community meeting with police that their area has twice the population of any other RBO assignment in the village. Tanksley said that he expects to make a decision on assigning the new RBO post by the end of this week.
