Eleanor Krause, 94, avid bowler, porcelain painter

Eleanor Krause (nee Libke), 94, who lived in Oak Park for 29 years, died on July 28, 2005 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Brooksville, Fla.

Born and raised in Chicago, Mrs. Krause married Erwin A. Krause in 1933 at Jehovah Lutheran Church in Chicago. They moved to Oak Park in 1947, where they raised two children: Nan Parrent, now living in Grand Canyon National Park, Ariz., and Alan (wife Donalda Ellek), who lives in Oak Park. Mr. and Mrs. Krause moved to Florida in 1976.

Mrs. Krause was an avid bowler and she also painted china and porcelain during her years in Florida. She belonged to the congregation of Bethany Lutheran Church in Chicago and the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spring Hill, Fla. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin, and her brother, Clarence Libke, and is survived by her children and her grandchildren, Daniel Ahlman and Craig (Christine) Ahlman.

Visitation was held on Aug. 2 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held there today at 10:30 a.m. and she will be buried at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.

Jean Sweeney, 81, wife of ex-OP fire chief

Jean C. Sweeney (nee Galley), 81, a lifelong Oak Park resident, died at her home on July 30, 2005.

Mrs. Sweeney was the mother of four daughters and one son, an avid bowler with the Women's Bowling League at Circle Lanes and a graduate of St. Catherine of Siena School and Oak Park and River Forest High School.

She was the wife of the late John "Jack" Sweeney, a retired chief of the Oak Park Fire Department; the mother of Mary Sue (Mike) Higgins, Nancy (Jack) Coaker of Oak Park, Deborah (Tom) Brooks, Peggy (Paul) Montesi, and Tim Sweeney of Oak Park; the sister of Guy (Virginia) Galley; the grandmother of Michael, Mark and Daniel Higgins, Colleen (Ray) Rudnick, Katie and Meghan Coaker, Kevin, Matt and John Brooks, and Philip and Jonathon Montesi; and the great-grandmother of Kaitlin and Graham Rudnick.

Visitation will be held today from 3 to 9 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 4 at St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy Church, with Rev. John Carolan, celebrant, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Edmund FitzGerald Jr., 71, Sales manager, St. Bernardine usher

Edmund J. FitzGerald, Jr., 71, a former resident of Oak Park, died on July 29, 2005, at his home in LaGrange Park.

He was born in Chicago on July 21, 1934, to Edmund J. FitzGerald, Sr. and Mary FitzGerald, both now deceased.

Mr. Fitzgerald was an economy engineer and sales manager. He was also an usher at St. Bernardine Church in Forest Park for over 30 years, a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and a member of the Golden Retriever Club of Illinois.

He was the husband of Maureen (Conroy) FitzGerald of LaGrange Park; the father of Bridget (Robert) Hamilton; the grandfather of John, Eileen and Erin Hamilton; the brother of Joan FitzGerald, Constance (the late Matthew) McCarthy, James Michael FitzGerald, the late Mary FitzGerald and the late Rita Hopkinson; and the uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held July 31 and Aug. 1 at Hitzeman Funeral Home in Brookfield and the funeral service was held on Aug. 1 at St. Bernardine Church, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre, 6001 W. 111th St., in Worth.
