Dr. Geoffrey (Geoff) Mark Adkins, 60, a longtime resident of River Forest, died on July 30, 2011 after a long illness. He attended Chicago Public Schools and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Chicago and a medical degree.
Dr. Adkins' Board Certification to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) occurred in December 1984, and he was accepted as an ACOG Fellow in 1985. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology as a key consultant to both private practitioners and hospitals and was admired by his patients for a gentle and caring nature that belied his towering stature. His height was exceeded only by his warm heart and fun-loving nature. His loyalty and quick wit will be remembered by his numerous classmates, colleagues and friends.
Dr. Geoff Adkins is survived by his sister, Winona Adkins, and many cousins in the Chicago area. He was preceded in death by his father, Winston, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen; and his mother, Marjorie, retired chief of the Fine Arts and Music departments of the Chicago Public Library system.
A viewing was held Aug. 11 at the A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home in Chicago, and funeral services were held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Chicago on Aug. 12.
