With four recent area graduates pursuing pro baseball dreams, Wednesday Journal will be keeping readers informed of their progress each week until the seasons end in early September. Stats are through Sunday.

Making his 28th appearance and 14th start of the season, Justin Olson passed the 100-inning mark and improved to 9-8 as New Britain defeated Harrisburg on Friday. He gave up four runs on seven hits, including a three-run homer, in a five-inning outing. His five strikeouts gave him 94 in 103 1/3 innings pitched.

Mike Santoro had a hit in five at-bats last week with San Francisco's rookie team in the Arizona League. Three of Santoro's six hits with the club have been doubles. He's batting .286 through seven games.

Double-A Midland infielder Vasili Spanos went 5-for-14 with two homers last week. Both were solo shots, August 9 against Arkansas and Thursday at Springfield. He boosted his average 14 points to .231.

Blake Whealy went 0-for-7 last week as his average fell to .209. His St. Lucie Mets are 27-23 and in fourth place in the Florida State League's East Division.
