Marjorie Benedict, 81, Church secretary at St. John Lutheran

Marjorie Ann E. Benedict, 81, of River Forest died on Aug. 8, 2012 in her home after a brief illness. Born on April 11, 1931 in Le Roy Township, Iowa, to Ferdinand and Emily Eggerding, she spent her younger years in Luzerne, Iowa where her father was the schoolmaster at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her family moved to Maywood, and she graduated from Proviso High School.

A talented administrator, her various employers included the Appraisal Institute, Norman Benedict Associates Inc., Olson Brothers Construction Co., and for 25 years she was the secretary at St. John Lutheran Church in Forest Park.

Her interests included crossword puzzles, reading (especially mysteries), attending church functions, visiting with her family and friends, and her annual visit to her son's home in Connecticut. Friends and family remember her as a beautiful, warm and caring person who positively touched the lives of many.

Marjorie Ann Benedict is survived by her son, Norman (N.R.) Benedict; her daughter-in-law, Kathy; her grandsons, Caleb and Ross; her brother, Roland Eggerding; and her many nieces, nephews and family members.

Visitation was held on Aug. 13 at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home in Forest Park. The funeral service took place at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 14, at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Luther North Education Fund at 5700 W. Berteau Ave., Chicago, IL 60634.
