Remember with sorrow and gratitude the sacrifices by U.S. soldiers whose lives were lost in Operation Enduring Freedom, July 3-9.

Please remember their families and all the civilians whose lives are lost in violence around the world.

For only the second time in over three years, no U.S. military fatalities occurred in Operation Enduring Freedom, July 9-16.

From the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, the Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago Breaking News Center, by way of Chicago Tribune's RedEye, Thursday edition:

In the city of Chicago, the following people were killed by violence, July 11-14:

Darryl Green, 17; Jeremiah Brown, 27; Jeremy Morris, 25; Gizzell Ford, 8; Tommie Bates, 24; Fernando Sanchez, 25; Blake Lamb, 22, Joseph Brewer Jr., 16; Ernest
Carter, 35.

The names of Chicago and Afghanistan casualties each week are read aloud and prayed for at Unity Temple's Sunday services.
