Margaret Nancy Collins, 88, of Clarendon Hills and a longtime resident of Oak Park and River Forest, died peacefully surrounded by her children and their spouses on June 9, 2013, in Hinsdale Hospital after a brief illness. The youngest of 10 children of John and Helen "Nellie" Barrett of Chicago's Austin neighborhood, she and her husband, Mike, raised eight boys in Oak Park as well as River Forest. After raising their family, they moved to Clarendon Hills where she lived until her death. An avid bridge and golf player, she was always quick with jokes that revealed a sharp sense of humor and great wit. For many years she spent the winters in Marco Island, Fla., where she made many new friends.
Margaret Collins is survived by her sons, Michael M.D. (Patti), Dennis (Inge), Thomas "Tim" (Diane), Roger M.D. (Polly M.D.), John "Jack" (Colleen), Peter (Meg), Joseph (Melina), and William Collins; her sister, Mary Edith Mulholland; 29 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Collins, and eight of her siblings.
Visitation was held in Hinsdale, and a funeral Mass was celebrated on June 12 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Clarendon Hills, followed by interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.
Arrangements were entrusted to her nephew, Peter Kennedy, funeral director of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Forest Park.
