District 200 is on the right track with its new board finance advisory committee, which hosted its first public meeting on Monday. OPRF High School needs to start figuring out what to do with its $120 million fund balance - other than just letting it pile up.

The D200 board was also wise to bring this committee under the oversight of the board rather than the superintendent. Board committees fall under the Open Meetings Act, and this finance committee needs to be open to the public. A direction and plan for OPRF's reserves was long overdue. This committee is a natural first step, and we're pleased that it's finally in place.
