It is not every July that Wednesday Journal turns 25. So we are celebrating with the Biggest Block Party Oak Park and River Forest have ever seen. It is this Sunday and we're using all of Scoville Park to pack in all the fun.
Did we mention that everything is free? Well it is. Leave your wallet at home. Your money is no good this Sunday.
Here's what you'll find in the park: bounce houses, a giant slide, an obstacle course, climbing wall, misting tent, remote control racing, dunk tank, bubble wands, baseball pitch, Pop-a-Shot and Soccer Kick. We even have a batch of carnival games complete with cheap plastic prizes! There's John Measner, the stilt walker; Magical Balloon Dude Dale; a DJ on the music stage; face painters galore; and crafts for the kids.
Then there are the 1,000 free hot dogs from the legendary Tasty Dog. Free popcorn. Free cotton candy. The tummyaches are on us.
To top off the afternoon, there'll be a concert by the fabulous Dooley Brothers.
The party starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. The Dooley Brothers take the stage at 5:30.
Thanks to our co-sponsors at the Park District of Oak Park, The Avenue, and All-4-Fun.
"After 25 great years of independent newspapering in Oak Park and River Forest," said Publisher Dan Haley, "this is just our way of ..." Blah, blah, blah. Enough of that palavering. Just come out to our party.
