The election of Anan Abu-Taleb has been the headline over the past 60 days. But the arrival of Peter Barber as a village trustee, directly from his fine service on the District 97 elementary school board, is also proving notable.

Already Barber has shown he is no rookie waiting to be schooled in the ways of village government. He is smart, charismatic, and has clear ideas about how village government can improve. Expecting village government to act more quickly by allowing trustees to make decisions without endless advisory sessions is Barber's goal. We elect trustees to lead. Barber's impetus should be supported.

Trustee Barber is a great add to the village board. He has a clear understanding of the board role and a lot of exciting ideas on how to enhance the board performance. I particularly like his calm approach to steering the board to more efficient and thoughtful decision making. His frankness in replying to Anna Lothson's questions give me hope that transparency is beginning to appear. I only have one thought about his closing. The residents criticisms are not targeted at the village, it is targeted at the government that has disappointed the community on a regular basis. There is a new path to success being discussed by the board and staff. The path is a rocky road. It has been cleared for travel, but still lacks a finished path.
