TIF lawsuit expense is infuriating

Oak Park is becoming a very different place from when I moved here 11 years ago:

Property taxes — It is increasingly more and more difficult to afford living here.

Crime — it's not safe to walk the streets (consider the attacks and attempted abductions going on around us).

And now, to add insult to injury, I just read in this week's Journal that Oak Park taxpayers have paid over $400,000 to lawyers in the TIF lawsuit.

This is absurd, irresponsible and infuriating.

Village of Oak Park, District 200 OPRF High School and District 97 elementary school, figure out a resolution so that you all can stop using taxpayer money in such an unproductive and irresponsible way.

I'm with you,Jamie. Taxpayers are footing the bills for all three of our local taxing bodies. This all could have been avoided if the Village Board had simply agreed to let the High School Board take a look a the TIF books. The amount VOP is spending could have been used to pay the salaries of the school crossing guards. But, what's more important? The safety of children or protecting one's turf?

Maybe if the Village Board was more fiscally responsible and wiser about picking good developers, there would not be a law suit. Too bad Sertus is following the same path as so many other TIF projects in Oak Park. http://triblocal.com/oak-park-river-forest/2011/06/22/lake-and-forest-project-eyes-switch-to-rental-units/
