After attending a recent village board study session on diversity I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the change I saw. Many board members were actually expressing support for maintaining diversity and concerned and interested in doing something about it. Testimony was given at this study session of how truly important each and everyone one of the foundation organizations are that help us remain one of the few diverse communities in the nation.
What perhaps wasn't touched on in the meeting is what a great job our Oak Park Regional Housing Center Director Aggie Stempniak is doing. For the past two years, in an increasingly tough rental market, Aggie has been able to keep up our national presence in the multi-family housing market. By focusing additional energy on the internet, Aggie and her staff have taken a new lead that has paid off in dividends this year with a strong up tick in new clients renting in Oak Park.
There are many challenges still facing us in Oak Park but fortunately it would appear that now we have village board members willing to tackle the new issues while maintaining the building blocks that got us here.
