According to AshleyMadison.com, Oak Park ranks among top Chicago suburbs where people are looking to cheat on their significant other.

As reported last week on OakPark.com, the online dating service, which includes an option for people who want to cheat, ranked Oak Park among the top 10 areas around Chicago where people are looking to cheat on their spouses. Oak Park came in at nine. The results from the geographical study were taken from data collected from the location where the website's clients indicate they reside. The site has over 200,000 members within the Chicago area and a total of 14 million overall worldwide. According to the website, the company does not promote cheating; instead it insists it provides an outlet for people seeking something more in their life.

Noel Biderman, the company's chief executive officer told WGN News that there is a direct correlation between affluence and infidelity. A number of Chicago neighborhoods, with Lincoln Park topping the chart, along with two other cities, Arlington Heights (No. 8) and Naperville (No. 10), made the list.

But Tracy Caldwell, an associate psychology professor at Dominican University, scoffs at such a notion. She suspects the website's methodology was flawed because the group likely didn't undergo a peer review process. The study provides conclusions, she insists, based on an unrepresentative data sample, therefore, the results are unwarranted.

To draw a conclusion that there is a correlation between affluence and infidelity is too simple, says Caldwell, a River Forest resident. Instead, the connection to affluence in this case may be better linked to who uses the websites. This would include those who have access to computers, Smartphones, and monetary resources it takes to be an active member of the service.

Oh Horace, inquiring minds want to know!

Cheating implies deceit. Let's consider for a moment that perhaps the seeking of extracurricular sexual activity happens with the knowledge & consent of their partners. Obviously not all of them - because the average American simply can't get their mind around that concept - but it's the highly intellectual (often affluent) folks who are able to develop a broader perspective on relationship - and life in general. Allowing for diversity in all things is one of Oak Park's finer traits.

It's amazing the people that you encounter in your daily travels that are cheaters. They could be former trustees or cheese shop managers or anyone. It just amazes you.

Nothing better than meeting a woman for the first time. I am in constant search for female companionship and find that each of my three wives lost interest in sex once they got comfortable. Men are real simple creatures but women and men eventually grow very different. i have each of my 3 wifes hooked up on link cards so have not just left them out in the cold. Women are just not a lot of fun

WHat awful journalism to list the title that Oak Park is tops when we are 9th. That being said if you check out Poor Phils or any bar on Madison they are filled with creepy old men looking to cheat.

Headline says, "Oak Park tops list..." Yeah, boy! We're #1!, we're #1!...huh, what does the story say?...really 9th?...errr...We're #9!, We're #9!

Woo-hoo! I knew there was a reason I liked reading the Journal--especially the comments! Who needs cable TV?

What a shameless plug for this website, and surprisingly a number of local media have picked up on this "story." The truth is Oak Park ranks 9th on the registered users to this website. Stating or making connections beyond anything beyond on that is silly. This does not "prove" that affluent people cheat more. It's that they have time to do it via a website.

To Just a guy from Oak Park - you're blaming women for how men behave? Every person's actions are their own responsibility. If the man (and a woman) is unhappy, then he is to express his feelings to his partner. If things don't change, then get divorced. But certainly don't blame her! It's 2012 not 1920!

Another example of lazy journalism & trying to create news with surveys & polls. The silliness of the topic notwithstanding, the "news" industry again takes the data of others at face vale to create a "story". Just like the meaningless polls we'll see from now through November, a complete lack of substance & thought. Polls & surveys aren't news, so stop trying to pretend that they are. Work a little bit!

good grief. all the survey participants are already surfing online dating sites---dontcha think that skews the data JUST A LITTLE BIT?

By running this tacky story, the Wednesday Journal has lowered its editorial standards to the ethical standards of this dating service.

Back in the day......There was a trustee who stepped down and left town with a VOP employee after they were outed. Not sure if either was married(at the time)

How strange and perverse. This makes Oak Park seem like a rather seedy place.

How do you trust survey results from someone who is on the edge of cheating?

There is so much going on in this article, I'm not sure where to start. I'm curious what % of those who say they're looking to cheat actually go through with it. Sure, I'd cheat on my wife with Kate Upton, but not the avg 45 yr old OP woman. (lovely as many of them are) Also, did they just survey heteros, or were gays included? No offense, but would the Steve Dahl theory take hold, i.e. with 2 guys, neither would so no to sex. Therefore would cheating spike higher if opportunity knocks? :)

Tsk, tsk, Kathleen.... being known as a liberal, democratic town is a "dismal statistic"??? If it bothers you that much, why are you still here???

Cheaters, please help me. I'd like to hear from you as to why you stay married if there's a need to step out on your spouses. Divorce is stressful, yes, but so is living a lie. What gives?

Actually, Oak Park was ranked 9th just ahead of Naperville. Still though, not something I would be proud of.
