John Edward Kelly III, 70, formerly of River Forest and Hanover Park, died in Punta Gorda, Fla. on April 27, 2013.
He grew up in River Forest and attended Oak Park and River Forest High School, where he played football and wrestled his junior and senior years. After graduation in 1960, he attended Western Illinois University and eventually graduated from Loyola University Chicago. He later earned an MBA from Dominican University. After marrying, John and his wife, Sue, raised their family in Hoffman Estates and later Hanover Park. He had a 34-year career with the Commonwealth Edison Company. Upon retirement, they moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., where he lived until his death.
John Kelly is survived by his wife, Susan (Monahan); his brothers, William, Thomas, and Robert (Margaret); his sister, Nancy Kelly Ristau; his children, John E. IV (Lisa), Colleen Flores (Luis) and Daniel (Tina); and his grandchildren, Johnny E. V, Jake, Miles, Nicholas, Kelly, Michelle, Rachelle, James and Cailinne. He was the uncle of and good friend to many and was preceded in death by his mother, Irene (Lewis); his father, John E. Kelly Jr.; and his brother, James Joseph (Nancy).
A celebration of John's life will be held on June 22, at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, 700 Park Avenue, Streamwood, at 10 a.m.
